Hi, I am
Douglas Closset
It started with movement. As a teenager into parkour, I got a camera in my hands through a friend who was already obsessed with images, and I never looked at the world the same way again.
Then I left to travel. Australia, New Zealand, a backpack and a camera. The landscapes were so stunning it was almost hard to take a bad photo, but something else happened: people kept telling me my shots looked like a real photographer had taken them. That stuck with me.
But little by little, I noticed what I loved most wasn't the empty landscape. It was the human inside it. Someone moving, someone doing their thing, someone truly alive in the frame.
So I decided to get serious about people. I wanted to learn portraits properly, because they fascinate me. I trained, I shot everyday scenes, couples, real moments, and the feedback kept coming : this is good, keep going.
Back home, I kept shooting what I love, paragliders mid-air, climbers on rock faces, mountains, travel, adventure, often through my work as a rope-access technician with Les Suspendus, which gives me access to places most people never get to see. And honestly, photography became the perfect excuse to chase slightly crazy ideas.
That's when I made the call : turn the passion into a craft. I already knew how to work with clients, understand a brief and deliver, from years running projects with Les Suspendus. I knew what real service means. So I brought that same standard to photography, for weddings, events, and the people who make things happen.
Eleven years later, that's still what drives me : real people, real moments, captured exactly the way they happened.
These days, that same eye goes into portraits, weddings and events. One of my images of Belgian artist Romain Helvétius even became the cover of his latest single, a few months ago. Moments like that remind me why I made this leap : real people, real trust, and images that actually mean something to the person in front of the lens.
One day I decided I wanted to shoot for Red Bull, so I booked a flight to Athens, drove out to the Cliff Diving World Series finals, showed up with my camera and simply asked if I could help. I walked out with a media pass and access to every zone of the competition. That streak of nerve is part of who I am, and it's probably why I show up with a slightly different eye.
